ATLANTIC CARRIER TRANSICOLD & ACCESS TRAILER LEASING

Celebrating 10 Years in Atlantic Canada

Atlantic Carrier Transicold set up shop in Moncton, NB in May 1997 with five employees in a 4,500 square foot building on Rooney Crescent.

The company created an Atlantic presence for Carrier Transcend refrigeration systems and is the licensed dealer for sales, parts and service of Carrier reefers in the Atlantic Region. Carrier is the world’s largest provider of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Atlantic Carrier is also affiliated with Access Trailer Leasing and Reefer Sales and Service in (Toronto) Inc. in Mississauga, ON. The Access leasing division of the company is a homegrown company, while the carrier dealership is owned by the President of Reefer Sales and Service, Ken Henwood of Mississauga.

President Steve Stockall was determined to make a name for Carrier reefers in the Atlantic Provinces.

“Steve’s determination and drive for business is a key reason for our highly achieved success today,” says General Manager Daran Ultican. Stockall’s life came to a tragic end in a car accident in 2002. “Steve’s hard work and triumph still lives on today here at Atlantic Carrier,” says Ultican.

In 2001, Atlantic Carrier moved to a 5,200 square foot building in the Caledonia Industrial Park’s Urqhuart Avenue. In 2005, the company built a new state-of-the-art facility just down the street on MacNaughton Avenue. This boosted the operation to 19,600 square feet.

“We see this building as a commitment to our customers in Atlantic Canada,” says Ultican. “This is a multi-million investment and we want to indicate our long term commitment to our customers in this part of the country. This new building has been our biggest achievement to day,” he says.

Now into its tenth year, Atlantic Carrier has grown to twenty-seven employees, headed by General Manager, Daran Ultican. Ultican joined the team in 2001 to head Access Trailer Leasing. He brought many years of management experience in leasing and trailer sales. He was appointed to General Manager of the operation in 2002.

Scott Mahar oversees Sales and Marketing at the company. Scott transferred from their affiliated company in Toronto in 1997 to manage the service department. As business throughout the years has changed, so have his roles.

“Scott is presently a key player in our driving sales growth. He has over 20 years refrigeration experience and is a licensed Master Technician,” says Ultican.

The Service Department/Trailer Division is now managed by Rick Adamcyzk. Rick has been with Atlantic Carrier since 2003. He was brought in to lead a new project, a trailer shop facility. He brings over 30 years experience and runs the shop with six technicians.

Rounding out the management team is Scott Melnick and Sharon Humphrey. Scott is the Service Manager for the reefer division. He started with the company in 1997 as a technician. He now manages the Reefer Shop with seven other technicians. Humphrey assumes the role of Office Manager. Sharon also started with the company in 1997 in the Parts Department and eventually moved to service as Service Coordinator. Throughout the years her role has changed. She has now worked in the position as Office Manager for the past eight years.

“We have an excellent crew of people,” says Ultican, pointing to his management and employees. “We are a service oriented company and can service all makes and models, not just Carrier Transicold. We have a broad customer range, from long haul fleets, to food service guys to milk delivery trucks,” he says. Atlantic Carrier also provides factory training to all of their customer’s technicians at an in-house training room in the MacNaughton Avenue facility.

New Product Lines the company is currently focusing on in the Atlantic Canadian marketplace include ComfortPro, Vector, and X2-Series.

Carrier Transicold’s ComfortPro Auxiliary Power Unit is being touted as a better way to cut idling, reduce fuel consumption and enjoy the comforts of home on the road. In a typical application, Carrier says the ComfortPro APU can reduce idling by up to 90 percent, saving thousands of dollars annually in fuel costs, while also reducing emissions, engine wear and associated maintenance costs. The ComfortPro APU provides both air conditioning and heating for the sleeper cab, 110-120-volt AC household current to run appliances, computers, etc. and 40 amps of truck battery charging, with battery-charge monitoring, among other features. Meanwhile, the Vector multi-temperature trailer refrigeration unit is Carrier’s premier multi- temperature unit. “The technology eliminates most mechanical components common to conventional trailer refrigeration units and uses an ultra-high-performance diesel motor to power the electrical system,” explains Ultican.

The X2-Series series of single-temperature trailer refrigeration units builds on a tradition of reliability and durability. The X2-Series features a major exterior redesign, providing more than just a contemporary new appearance. Panel doors are made of advanced DuraShell 2 material, a Thermoplastic Olefin composite. DuraShell 2 has structural integrity comparable to the X-Series original DuraShell material, but with triple the impact strength, double the UV light resistance, 50 percent better thermal stability and 20 percent better heat resistance. Technicians will also appreciate the improved access to mechanical parts. X2-Series models are the only refrigeration units with hinged side doors that open all the way to the top, providing total access with the flip of a single latch on each side door.
